VACUTUBE Tubes are used with holders and needles as a system for the collection, transportation and procession of venous blood; for testing serum, plasma or whole blood in the clinical laboratory.
VACUTUBE tubes are plastic tubes with a predefined vacuum for exact draw volumes. They are fitted with colorcoded VACUTUBE Safety Stoppers (see Product Line in the catalogue). The tubes, additive concentrations, volumes of liquid additives, and their permitted tolerances, as well as the bloodtoadditive ratio, are in accordance to the requirements and recommendations of the international standards.

Tubes are coated with micronised silica particles (Clot activator), which activate clotting when tubes are gently inverted.
Tubes contain a barrier gel that is present in the bottom of the tube. During centrifugation the barrier gel moves upward to the serum clot interface, where it forms a stable barrier separating the serum from fibrin and cells. Serum may be aspirated directly from the collection tube, eliminating the need for transfer to another container. The barrier is also stable during shipping for up to 48 hours.
Note: Before sending the tubes by mail or through a pneumatic post system, the gel tubes should sit upright for one hour after centrifugation in room temperature, to minimize the risk of imparing the gel barrier through shock movements (vibration).
The interior of the tube wall is coated with lithium heparin. The anticoagulant heparin activates antithrombins, thus blocking the coagulation cascade and producing a whole blood / plasma sample instead of clotted blood plus serum.
The tube is available with an 0.21M liquid K3EDTA solution or with dried K2EDTA. The EDTA binds calcium ions thus blocking the coagulation cascade. Erythrocytes, leucocytes and thrombocytes are stable in EDTA anticoagulated blood for up to 24 hours. Blood smearing should be done within 3 hours after blood collection. VACUTUBE EDTA tubes are used for testing whole blood in the clinical laboratory.
Tubes are filled with trisodium citrate solution. The concentration is 0.129 mol/l (3.8 %). The solution is buffered. VACUTUBE Coagulation tubes are used for coagulation tests.
The tubes contain anticoagulant and stabiliser (Potassium oxalate and sodium fluoride). Application: Measurement of blood sugar and lactate.
Tubes contain a 3,8% buffered trisodium citrate solution (0.129 mol/l). The mixing ratio is 1 part citrate solution to 4 parts blood. VACUTUBE ESR Tubes are used for the collection and transport of venous blood for blood sedimentation rate testing. ESR measurements refer to the Westergren method.
